Lisa wrote to me today needing an outfit for her first job interview, ever. She writes: “Hello, I have interviews coming up in the month of August for a nursing job and was just wondering can you please advise and style and help me what to wear. As a student I love your page! Keep those bargains coming in. Thanks. Nicole.”
As I remember my ‘first interview outfit’, Nicole, I shudder rather than smile reminiscently. I think I walked out of the house looking about 20 years older than I actually was. Everything was too big and I seem to recall a slight shoulder pad. Essentially, mum dressed me, ok?
Not for you today. Let’s get you looking smooth, classy but let’s dress you your age, which I’m assuming is below 23, seeing you’re a student. And you need shoes that you can walk in, right?
I have pulled together pieces that I think you can match in with what you already own. Black dress with black shoes, obviously and a patterned skirt that can easily be worn with white shirt and black blazer, for example. I always like a smart dress for an interview and an interesting dress with a bit of pattern is what I’d go for but I completely understand when girls want to go all black. Just be careful you don’t look like you’re going to a funeral.
On a happy note, let’s begin shopping!
