7 People heart this

Today’s small business feature is too cute for words. Specialising in heavenly pieces for kids (divine toys, kids room inspiration and super cute clothing) and also offering a creative space for the little ones to enjoy, Habitots is one winning idea! This divine online store also has a retail store in Albert Park in Melbourne and welcomes parents and kids to come and enjoy this gorgeous space.

I had a quick chat with the lovely Suzanne Acteson from Habitots to find out all the details behind this small business. Suzanne is one multi-tasking Mum,  juggling Mum-life to three little boys and running a business all at the same time! Clearly I was keen to find out what her secret is to juggling it all?!

“My boys are spaced out quite a bit from 1 to 8 yrs so the 2 older boys are in school which helps. I do multitask like a maniac and often have a million things going on at once. It’s a bit hectic but I thrive off of the pace and still try to be present with the kids so they have all of my attention when I’m with them. My husband plays a huge part in being able to do it. We don’t have any family here in Australia but he’s a very hands on Dad – does laundry, loves to cook and takes them to sport….we have to communicate well and it’s not always smooth sailing but we laugh a lot and that keeps us going. The last thing would be our community – we have amazing neighbours who are like grandparents to our kids and great friends to us; our school friends will grab the boys if we’re running late and we share pick ups and drop offs to school and sport with neighbours and friends. A real little community.”

After 11 years working in advertising and most recently running an agency in Melbourne, Suzanne left adland to follow her dream. That dream and vision for Habitots had been in her head for almost 7 years! It’s safe to say Suzanne knew exactly what she wanted to set out and achieve with this little business. She was determined to ‘bring Habitots to life and do things differently. Not to follow the rules, to run a business consciously and with thought about the people they work with and the products they bring in.’ This formula is clearly evident in the divine range on offer, both in store and online.

Recently Habitots welcomed stylist Mardi Mason into their space to transform three rooms into a nursery, kids room and a playroom. Bringing to life a heavenly mix of products and creating three divine spaces which can be seen and experienced in real life, they wanted to offer customers a way of feeling inspired to decorate at home (rather than just flicking through Instagram or magazine pics for inspiration).  The end result is magical.

To add to this exciting concept, Habitots also holds kids parties and workshops (I’ll be keeping this in the memory bank for the girls future parties). I’m also on the hunt for activities to do with the kids and whilst they no longer have the cafe on site, they welcome parents to BYO their own coffee and food to enjoy. This sounds like the perfect plan to me! You can read more about their parties and workshops HERE
